Abstract
Technical systems are increasing to support human behavior in road traffic. An experimental User Needs Analysis was designed to take into account the needs of future users at the development and functional specification of driver assistance systems. This method was tested within the EC projects AC-ASSIST (Anti-collision system) and Urban Drive Control (telematic speed control) in real-road driving trials with naive subjects. The needs of potential users were investigated on different levels and translated into consequences for functional system specification.
