Small Gas Samples Analyzed for Nox By Electron Capture Detector

To determine NOx formation processes in the combustion chamber of diesel engines, we have used gas chromatography with ECD (Electron Capture Detector) to measure NOx emissions in small gas samples. The ECD is little sensitive to hydrocarbons and selectively sensitive to nitrogen compounds. In this study, NOx is converted into esters of nitrous acid with the reaction of alcohol. The results show a high correlation between ECD and the CLD method, which is generally used to measure NOx.
