Abstract
The tensile properties of magnesium alloy AZ91D have been found to vary with cast section thickness for pressure die cast tensile specimens. Unless this variation in properties is used when designing castings the casting may be underdesigned or over weight.
This paper covers the application of specific properties when designing a pressure die cast part. It also illustrates the necessary steps to maximise the casting potential for light weight.
