Abstract
The first law of thermodynamics states that energy can be neither created nor destroyed only altered the form and energy is equivalent regardless of the form. As a result of being applied to the Otto cycle exactly, it is shown that the thermal efficiency is the function of not only the compression ratio but also the ratio of temperature according to condition, the optimum compression ratio for both the work and the thermal efficiency is confirmed at the constant ratio of temperature, and, the scientific rational agreement is acquired that, when the theoretical work is zero, the thermal efficiency is zero too.
