Abstract
Numerical simulation program to analyze transient thermal and conversion characteristics of automobile catalytic converters has been developed. It was used to study effects of the noble metal loading pattern on conversion characteristics during warm-up, and following results were shown. Firstly, the effect of high-loading on improving conversion characteristics is saturated six times as much as usual catalytic converters. Secondly, the new loading pattern that improves conversion characteristics with the same total noble metal loading as the uniform loading (i.e. high loading on the outer region of the inlet part and low-loading on the rest) was suggested.
