Abstract
To study an unstable phenomena of diesel sprays, spray shape, needle valve motion and sac inner flow of multi-hole-type nozzles were imaged using a high speed camera and a CCD camera. It was observed that needle valve offset and one sided sac inner flow induced the fluctuated deviation of spray direction and deformation of spray shape. It was clarified that hydrocarbon emission closely related to the frequency of the unstable spray, and that the suppression of the frequency of the unstable spray yielded improved hydrocarbon emission.
