Blow-By Gas Volume Reduction of Water Cooled Gasoline Engine for Motorcycle

This study is aimed at reduction of blow-by gas volume at wide-open throttle conditions to improve the durability of wear on piston ring-groove surface. The configurations of the top piston ring and its ring-groove were focused by the practical measurement of blow-by gas volume. It was found that wash-in angle of the top ring and dihedral angle of the piston ring-groove has much influence on the ring fluttering. Narrow gaps of the compression rings and the ring-groove chamfering contributed to reduction of blow-by gas volume.
