New Developments in Diesel Injection Systems for Powerful High-Speed Di Diesel Engines
Published September 28, 1995 by Institution of Mechanical Engineers in United Kingdom
The lowest fuel consumption in road vehicles and therefore the lowest CO2 - emissions, are achieved with DI Diesel engines. During the last few years the pollution requirements for vehicles are being made continuously more severe. To get lower emissions it was and is necessary to develop new fuel injection systems. In this paper, after a brief description of the current two stage nozzle system architecture and characteristics, its potential for passenger car DI Diesel engines are shown through results on a prototype vehicle.
Based on the present unit injector design a completely new development of a three stage nozzle has been started. A brief description of the new system and first test results are given in this paper.
The report shows, that there is a potential for further improvement, primarily by the use of new injection systems.
