Abstract
The 1996 MY JeepĀ® Grand Cherokee has a new transfer case with a viscous coupling for on-demand traction control. This system, with its infinitely variable torque split, provides enhanced on-road handling without sacrificing off road traction capability. The viscous coupling was tuned by bench and in-vehicle testing to obtain the optimum balance of low end torque, reaction time and high end torque.
