Abstract
The ammonia is one of the toxic gaseous polluters present in countless industrial processes being of great importance in the industry of motion since it is the raw material for the manufacture of plastics, rubbers, synthetically fibers, combustibles and mirror silvering. Anosmia, vomiting, glottal edema, blindness and respiratory failure are the main symptoms of the exposition to ammonia. The systems applied for the treatment of gases and vapors besides minimizing the impact of pollution over the environment are largely used in the recovery of high cost gases and treatment of same when they have corrosive characteristics. Within the industrial methods for depuration of gases, the adsorption has been a reason for many studies and researches to allow the reuse of the material at low operational costs.
The aim of the present paper is to study the depuration of ammonia through the adsorption by searching comparison and evaluation of the use of alternative low cost adsorbent materials and abundant in relation to commercial adsorbents. The results have shown the viability of use of an alternative product such as peat and coffee less in an adsorption column to remove ammonia (gas) from air.
