Abstract
The demand for vehicle occupant safety in the event of an accident, has increased in the last years. Seat Belts are today the most common and effective mean of protection and its utilization in many places is mandatory, due to the existence of related laws. However, other alternatives have appeared, too.
This paper describes an inflatable supplemental restraint system or air bag.
Discussions are conducted about its components, fundamentals, benefits and technical development steps.
