Abstract
Automation of repetitive fastener installation tasks can result in improved production speed, quality and lowered cost. Several major airframe builders have automated riveting installation, but little has been done to automate the repetitive installation of the more common threaded fasteners used in assembly. Numerous other industries have automated these processes with great success. Application of these non-aerospace techniques to aerospace applications could result in marked decreases in assembly time and cost.
