Abstract
The history of the use of tracks and their evolution in agriculture, culminating with the rubber belt tracks, is reviewed as well as the performance differences between wheels and tracks in terms of traction and compaction. The theoretical studies involving track-soil relationships are reported in historical sequence. Because rubber belted tracks have become an important option in the market, new studies related with their effects are needed.
