Abstract
This paper develops an approach in how to optimize upfront at the early design stage the instabilities of a power steering system for passenger cars by using specialized computer simulation developed by the authors. This will include a model of a wheel to wheel steering system with the all components associated.
A time domain approach will be demonstrated with a correlation that includes in vehicle tests.
After having analyzed the overall system a study will be developed on how to tune steering systems through a dual analytical approach of hose design in the power steering systems:
-
A lumped parameter mode necessary for the time and frequency domain analysis and transient behaviour of the fluid into the hoses. Its limits will be highlighted.
-
A continuous model for steady state behaviour in the frequency domain.
