Abstract
Computer vision is considered effective in recognizing lane marks, cars and obstacles on the lane. The dynamic range of brightness on road scenes is very wide. Therefore, the dynamic range of conventional TV cameras is insufficient to input the scenes. For expanding the dynamic range of TV cameras, we have developed a method of combining the images sequentially taken with different exposure time. Also, we have developed an experimental vision sensor system with a wide dynamic range based on the method applicable to the vision systems for vehicles. The effectiveness was confirmed in the experiments on highway under various lighting conditions.
