HINO Motors Ltd. has developed a new medium duty truck for garbage collector with a diesel-electric hybrid engine system consisting of a TI diesel engine, a very thin three phase AC induction motor, a very light weight and small size inverter and batteries etc.. This system converts the braking energy into electric energy to be stored in batteries and adds the assisting torque to the diesel engine by the AC induction motor. Therefore exhaust smoke and NOx at start-up and acceleration of this vehicle are greatly improved in comparison with the conventional diesel engine. And when this vehicle works as garbage collector, noise level of engine and exhaust smoke are greatly improved in comparison with the conventional diesel engine, due to decrease engine revolution and pay constant load to engine at working, too.
