Abstract
Diesel engine governing is one of the key techniques for determining fuel efficiency and driveability of Diesel engine powered vehicles. Diesel engine governing techniques have undergone an evolutionary process starting from mechanical governing and progressing to hydromechanical governing, analog governing and now to micro-processor-based digital control of conventional equipment. In this paper, the development of a new type of engine governing technique is presented, which is called Direct Digital Diesel Engine Governing. The governing system consists of digitally controlled injection equipment, a discrete, digital engine model, and digital control strategy and implementation algorithm. The different elements of the system have been matched and optimized to meet the requirements of simple hardware structure, precise crank angle based control and fast transient response. The system can further improve diesel engine governing characteristics. In particular, it can improve performance by solving problems that occur during diesel engine idle operation.
