Analysis of the Appropriateness of Motorcycle Auxiliary Lamps by Means of Neural Networks

Abstract
This paper analyzes the subjective evaluation of the lighting of the auxiliary lamps of a motorcycle on the basis of the data collected in field experiments. Two types of experiments were conducted:

1)
To investigate the effect of various positions of the auxiliary lamps on a motorcycle, and
-
2)
To determine the influence of various luminous intensities of the lamps.
For example, the subjects were instructed to judge how they felt about the appropriateness of the auxiliary lamps according to the 5-interval integer rating scale.
After the tests, the authors made non-linear interpolations of the data by means of three-layered neural networks. This analysis presents considerable information about the appropriateness of the auxiliary lamps in regards to their positions on the motorcycle and their luminous intensities in daytime and nighttime conditions respectively.
