Abstract
Rolling noise levels were assessed on nine different road surfaces, two of a dense and seven of a porous type. The results were spectrally compared to both the absorption and the texture characteristic of the surfaces. Conclusions were drawn with respect to the optimal texture spectrum and the optimal absorption spectrum. Furthermore, the effect of tyre choice on the noise levels was investigated. Both passenger car tyres and truck tyres were used in the test. The results of these tests were interpreted with respect to a standardized measuring method for tyre ranking.
