Abstract
It is indicated that the frontal impact test requirements for IndyCars could safely be modified to increase protection against lower limb injury.
The proposed changes could be evaluated through testing or mathematical modelling, using an occupant simulation package.
Other aspects of driver protection could be addressed using established automotive test techniques.
