Abstract
The primary function of modern electronic engine control systems is to accurately control fuel delivery and ignition timing for optimum power and minimum emissions. This requires accurate tracking of engine position and the ability to drive high current/voltage loads (fuel injector solenoids, spark coils, etc.). Automotive loads require actuation at a controlled angular position for a specific time or specific angular displacement. In the future, improved engine tracking and pulse generation will be required for improved emissions and fuel economy. In addition, all outputs will require monitoring for fault protection and self diagnostics.
