Abstract
A description is made of a modern tool, the Universal Climate Simulator, which is very useful both for the development of new strategies and for the testing of Electronic Control Units for passenger vehicles climate control.
This paper shows how it is possible to study the control strategies with a real time model of the internal climate of a vehicle, though a precise simulation of the internal climate of an automobile is not a simple task.
The main problem is the huge number of phenomena to be taken into account with a necessarily simple model, while, on the other hand, it is important to study the efficacy of the control in any situation, under the influence of any possible perturbation.
The model structure proposed is a set of nonlinear differential equations, which are deduced directly from a physical model. As a consequence, all the parameters to be identified in this model have their physical meaning. With the modularity of each component of the model a complete portability for different ECUs and for different vehicles is obtained. Modularity is also required for an easy configuration of the model, simulating different environmental conditions.
The real time integration of the differential model is performed with a predictor corrector method permitting a good output with a reasonable number of iterations to be executed in real time.
