Combustion Characteristics By Use of Chemiluminescence in Diesel Flame

The purpose of this study is to clarify the combustion mechanism in the diesel flame, using a DI diesel engine with an elongated and transparent piston. The flame characteristics were taken by 16mm high-speed direct photography. Then the distributions of the flame temperature and the relative soot concentration were obtained by two-color method. Chemical species, such as OH and CH radicals in the flame were observed by use of luminosity method. Then, the qualitative relations among the flame temperature, the relative soot concentration and these radicals were revealed, based on the results of temporal and spatial characteristics of these in the flame.
