A jerk-type high-pressure injection equipment, so called a unit injector was produced on trial for improving the combustion of high-speed small DI diesel engines. The unit injector has an electrically-controlled PZT actuator for controlling the injection timing and quantity. The performances of the unit injector were examined. Their main performance include the maximum injection quantity and the maximum injection pressure, which were found to be 100 mm3/str. and 170 MPa, respectively, and the capability of pilot injection.
