Truck Diesel Engine Development for Future European Emission and Noise Standards
Published May 14, 1992 by Societe des Ingenieurs de l'Automobile in France
In consequence to the known and expected European legislation, this paper deals with approaches to reduce gaseous and particulate emissions and noise abatement measures for heavy duty diesel engines. Specifically the effect of different rate of heat release developments on nitric oxide formation and fuel consumption, the requirements on fuel injection and supercharging systems and diesel fuel characteristics are outlined. Mentioned are also exhaust gas aftertreatment measures for diesel engines such as particulate filters, oxidation catalysts and DENOX catalysts.
