Semiconductor Lda Systems and Their Application in Engine Research

This paper describes the essential features of miniaturized, one-component laser-doppler anemometer (LDA) systems and their application to velocity and turbulence intensity distribution measurements in steady flow tests of cylinder heads and to time-resolved velocity measurements in a motored/fired research engine. Comments on the further development of semiconductor LDAs for two-component, single point velocity measurements and for single component, two-point measurements to determine turbulent length scales also are included.
