Abstract
Quality Function Deployment (QFD) is a customer-driven design and development technique which implements concurrent engineering. QFD has been successfully applied to mechanical and software systems, processes and services, and strategic planning, QFD experience has exposed limitations in classical QFD and the need for powerful, customizable QFD support tools. Researchers at Rockwell Science Center are developing a proprietary SeeQFD™* software tool that enables developers to apply QFD more effectively than when using traditional techniques or commercial tools. The SeeQFD™ software supports design alternative trade-offs, design rationale capture, electronic design notebooks, design filtering and sorting, and heuristically-based design checking. It can be used dynamically in geographically distributed meetings with large-screen projection systems. Prototype software runs on Sun™** and DECstations™***, and is in exploratory use by several Rockwell divisions. This paper summarizes project motivations, technical approach, and status.
