Abstract
Recent theoretical and experimental research on hydrodynamic lubrication and boundary friction in sheet metal forming is described. The results of this work are incorporated into an internal variable friction model for use in computer simulation of sheet metal forming. The new model greatly improves the accuracy of the simulation with little computational penalty.
