Abstract
Experimental modal analysis and dynamic system optimization are performed to identify an optimal configuration of powertrain mounting system under the engine idle condition. 2.0 ℓ powertrain of FF type is used to obtain the inertia properties, optimal mount positions and stiffnesses, and transmitting forces for the four point transverse mounting system. The procedure uses experimental data from a modal test to identify physical properties of powertrain as well as the mount layout and specifications based on the torque roll axis and elastic center. The forces and moments generated from engine firing conditions are obtained from engine performance simulation and crank-piston mechanism. Under the engine firing condition, the optimal mount stiffnesses are determined by minimizing the forces transmitted through mounts to the vehicle body.
