Abstract
Toyota has introdued new 4-valve engine series as the standard engines. And recently major improvements have been added to this series to provide new features as the second generation engine.
For 4A-FE, 1.6 ℓ, water-cooled 4-cylinder engine, in order to increase performance over the entire speed range and the fuel economy, those are often contrary to each other, the cylinder head port, the clooling system, and the piston are improved, and the knock control system is adopted. And also the idle speed control system, the evaporative emission control system and fuel control are improved for higher fuel economy. And in order to reduce vibration and noise, forged crankhsaft, large aluminum stiffner and cylinder-like hydraulic engine mount are adopted.
In this paper, Details of such improvement will be introduced.
