Abstract
Industry embraces adhesives, sealants and chemical threadlockers because:
-
1.
They enhance part performance and allow development of new products with improvements that are sensitive to manufacturing costs.
-
2.
They reduce costs of existing and new designs versus other alternative assembly methods.
This paper focuses on issues related to better understanding of cost benefits achieved by adhesives and sealants versus commonly used alternative assembly methods.
The paper also illustrates how Design for Manufacturing philosophy and guidelines can benefit from engineering adhesive and sealant technologies.
