Computational Study of Three-Dimensional Flow Around a Heavy-Duty Truck Body

The flow around a heavy-duty truck body is simulated by directory integrating the Navier-Stokes equations, approximated by finite- difference equations. To evaluate the effectiveness of the numerical simulation. A truck model at 1/6 scale is tested in a wind tunnel with and without moving belt. Calculated results on the flow structures around the vehicle body surface agree quite well with test results. The influence of the tire rotation on the flow around tire housing is qualitatively good simulated. Good quantitative agreement is also seen between the simulated and experimental drag coefficient values.
