Application of Reed Valves to Four Cycle Spark Ignition Engine
Published January 01, 1990 by Associazione Tecnica Dell'Automobile in Italy
There is a general market request of increasing the engine torque at very low speed in order to improve the urban drive-ability reducing the gear shiftings.
For matching this target an application of reed valves, as already known in the two cycle engine field, has been developed on the ALFA ROMEO 2.0 twin spark engine.
A torque gain of from 15 to 30% has been obtained below 2000 rpm without any substantial penalization of the maximum output.
