Thrust Vectoring Control Concepts and Issues

Abstract
Thrust vectoring is a capability to vector or point the thrust of an aircraft engine in any direction thereby increasing the aircraft control power and its agility.
The General Electric Axisymmetric Vectoring Exhaust Nozzle concept is called by the acronym “AVEN”. The vectored thrust can steer, or assist the flight control of the aircraft.
Concepts of how this can be done are being developed. This paper deals with the control of thrust vectoring.
The use of an engine in this new flight mode, linked with the flight control, opens many issues such as optimal control configuration to achieve function, weight, cost, reliability and safety. This paper deals with the choices and the issues.
