Abstract
On account of today's requirements for exhaust emissions, fuel consumption, safety, and driveability of a modern passenger car, not only fuel metering and ignition, but also an automatic control of the air flow of an Otto engine under all driving conditions are indispensable. This control of the air flow should not only depend on the position of the accelerator pedal. Different concepts were put into mass production, fulfilling these requirements to a certain extent and new solutions will be developed.
This paper describes the advantages and disadvantages of the various concepts and presents the new highly efficient VDO E-Gas Modular Throttle Body System.
