Abstract
Various loads given to engine's cylinder-head gaskets increase with generating high performance. To maintain enough gasket-sealing pressure against those loads, the FEM is useful for the design of the cylinder-head and block. The analysis is executed for the loads to the gaskets resulting from cylinder-head bolts tightening, gas pressure, and temperature distribution.
Compression characteristic of the gasket shows remarkable non-linearity. We simulate the non-linear characteristic with two linear analyses combined.
Reasonable sealing pressure distribution under the bolts tightening force in the, analysis are obtained. The contact pressure distribution and the-deformation of cylinder-head and block under various load can be observed. This method permits us to develop cylinder-head and block which give the optimum seal performance to the gasket.
