Abstract
Advancements in the application of technology to the generation, control and distribution of electric power make it feasible to operate more demanding electric loads from small on-site power plants. The integration of several control strategies from microprocessor based control to SCR switching make it possible to operate an electrically powered dragline from multiple engine generator sets paralleled on a common bus. This paper identifies some of the major considerations and control strategies implemented to successfully operate a Rucyrus Erie 1300W dragline from a 6.4 MWe power plant.
