Abstract
We have developed a new friction material manufacturing process on the basis of a new concept that controlling the structure of the friction material provides the improved properties required for pad. The friction material manufactured through this new process has pores of a comparatively large diameter (diameter ≥ 10μm) for improved fade performance, and consist of a binder resin layer of high vibration damping for reduced brake noise. This new pad, which does not contain asbestos as a reinforcing fiber, is superior in brake effectiveness, stability of effectiveness, and wear resistance, as well as in fade performance and brake noise level. Thus, this pad shows a higher performance when compared with the conventional pad.
