Abstract
At the SAE '87 Du Pont presented thermoplastic polyester elastomer resin formulations, which are being marketed under the BEXLOY® V trademark. Those resins were developed to meet the performance needs for automotive exterior applications, such as fascias, claddings and rocker panels. Since then several of these thermoplastic polyester compositions have seen commercial use on production vehicles and others are scheduled for adoption this year and beyond in the USA, Japan and Europe.
Their successful introduction for automotive applications has been possible because they offer the desired combination of physical properties that justifies the replacement of alternative materials like RRIM, TPU and TPO achieving improved appearance, performance and competitive or lower overall on-the-vehicle costs.
