Abstract
This paper discusses how manufacturers are rethinking the design of heavy trucks to meet the requirements for better dynamic stability on the road, especially because of the rapid increase in road transport. It outlines the difficulties of achieving such stability and gives extensive details of the reasons why. The author gives an overview of the improvements already made, of existing technical solutions and of the current evolution. He concludes that significant improvements cannot be achieved without a better and more permanent synthesis of the problems encountered in design, use and maintenance of vehicles.
