Pavement Performance - A State DOT Perspective

Abstract
This paper presents a basic discussion of pavement performance as experienced by those responsible for the management of a state highway system. It describes in general terms the basic types of pavement currently used by most agencies and briefly describes the general forms of pavement deterioration experienced and the predominate causes of that deterioration.
