Abstract
The Canadian government has announced a new regulation, effective December 1, 1989, for Daytime Running Lights to be installed in all vehicles manufactured for use in Canada. There are several ways to design a system to meet the intensity requirements of the regulation, either as separate lights or combined with the existing lighting system. This paper will discuss the rationale behind Daytime Running Lights as well as some of the relevant issues to be considered when designing such a system for heavy-duty trucks.
