Abstract
The subject “Compounded Engine Lubricating Oils” for the period some 40 to 60 years ago covers an important era in our lubricant technology. Much of the significant progress was covered by specific reports at the time. Many of these records are available through the SAE, but the drama of the evolution of that period may be enhanced by little-known facts that are pertinent and, in some cases, unusual. Therefore, this is a presentation, from memory, of an autobiographical report of occurrences that influenced progress in this designated field.
