Abstract
Ceramic valve and seat insert engine tests are evaluated. Effects on operating temperatures, component wear and valve train dynamics are quantified. Durability of the Sialon components is established. It is concluded that structural ceramics offer definite advantages as premium valve train materials and are durable under cycling dynamometer tests.
