The Development of ZA-27 Engine Mountings by Austin Rover

Abstract
The ZA familv of hiqh strenqth zinc alloys; namely ZA-8. ZA-12 and ZA-27 have been used for numerous stressed components in recent Years. In the UK the Austin Rover Group, were quick to appreciate the potential of the materials to replace cast iron in certain applicaLions and included a ZA-27 enaine mounting bracket in the Maestro family saloon; launched in 1983. Further desians followed on other new models and a total of eleven brackets are cllrrentlv in production. The development and test ina programme is outlined and some of the experience gained is discussed.
