Abstract
In this paper, the requirements specified by the Society of Automotive Engineers SAE-9B High Speed Data Bus Applications and Requirements Task Group are examined and compared to the capabilities of the American National Standards Institute's emerging Fiber Distributed Data Interface Local Area Network standard. This paper also includes a performance analysis of the FDDI protocol for the HART Benchmark Information Rates, which are performance requirements for real-time systems. The results of the analysis indicate that the FDDI conforms to the HART requirements.
