Abstract
Foaming of transmission-hydraulic fluids is due to both fluid properties and equipment design and operation. This paper discusses equipment design parameters which influence the the rate of foam formation and collapse. The effect of surfactants and foam inhibitors is also discussed. Experimental work is described showing that hydraulic filters can increase the fluid's foaming tendency by removing the foam inhibitor.
