Abstract
In a land-scarce country like Japan, space is a vital resource whereby even the smallest of space is cherished. This attitude led to the concept of finding beauty, value and richness in smallness- not “despite”, but “because of” smallness. Designed to human scale and the scale of the city, the community vehicle SV 250 was developed with such a concept of aesthetics.
There are various means and levels of transportation, each having its own characteristic advantages and disadvantages, which together form a complementary transportation network. But there has always been a lack of a human-scale vehicle positioned between a motorcycle and an automobile. What we might call a new species of vehicle which fills this need will improve the environment. Utilizing size, maneuverability, fuel efficiency and state of the art technology, small vehicles like the SV 250 are certain to have a evolutionary effect on the urban environment.
