Abstract
A new approach to the probabilistic vehicle dynamics is presented based on the representation of road-surface roughness in terms of the filtered Poisson process. The dynamic response of a vehicle running on the rugged road is simulated by use of a finite element frame model subjected to the excitation at four wheels on the basis of the linear, decoupled equation of motion through complex eigenvalue analysis. The numerical examples show that the simulation based on the filtered Poisson process and fast Fourier transform enables us to evaluate the power spectrum, time-history and number of occurrence of the dynamic response, bypassing the evaluation of the power sectrum of the surface roughness itself.
