Abstract
The Victorian Solar Energy Council contracted the CSIRO Division of Energy Technology to retrofit a current. Ford Falcon sedan as a flexible fuel car to operate on different mixtures of ethanol and unleaded petrol. An alcohol sensor, produced by TNO, The Netherlands, and an electronic engine management system, produced by Orbital Engine Company, were incorporated in the flexible fuel car. The paper discusses the modifications to the car, the engine mapping procedure and the performance of the flexible fuel car operated on 0, 20, 40 and 60% ethanol mixtures.
